Next month, the Security Council will officially begin to consider candidates for UN Secretary-General. In a letter to the President of the General Assembly, the Security Council announced that it will hold its first “straw poll” on 21 July.

One World Trust has provided 1 for 7 Billion with a series of briefings on the UN Secretary-General selection process. The four briefings are written by scholars from around the world who are members of the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), with a view to making the appointment process more open, inclusive and accountable
