Live from 18:30 EDT: debate with Secretary-General candidates

Four UN Secretary-General hopefuls will be taking part in the last of an unprecedented series of public debates on Wednesday, 13 July 2016.

Participants include:

  • Christiana Figueres – Former Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • Natalia Gherman – former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moldova
  • Vuk Jeremić – former President of the UN General Assembly and former Foreign Minister of Serbia
  • Danilo Türk – Chair of the Global Fairness Initiative and former President of Slovenia
 
 

Candidates will be quizzed by the moderators: Thomas G. Weiss, Co-Director of the Future UN Development System Project, and Barbara Croisette, UN correspondent for The Nation and previously The New York Times. Questions will cover a range of challenging topics such as forced migration, conflict resolution and UN reform.  

In an interactive session, the candidates will face questions from the audience, composed of civil society, academics, the media and the wider public.

This event has been organised by the United Nations Association – UK (co-founder of 1 for 7 Billion) in partnership with Global Citizen and the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies at The Graduate Center, CUNY.
